The Head of the Household

The Head of the Household

[Read, Study, Understand, Apply, LIVE, and Share YOUR Experience of Psalms 18 & 2nd Samuel 2:1-4]

By Apostle Ricardo Butler

The Scriptures say,

“And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah.” (v. 4).

Judah was the Tribe David was from. It was his family. They were all part of his very own household. Remember this verse?

“David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him. And every one that was in DISTRESS, and every one that was in DEBT, and every one that was DISCONTENTED, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain [Heb: ‘A head person (of any rank or class):–captain, captain that had rule, chief, chief captain, general, governor, keeper (pastor), master (teacher), prince, principal, ruler, steward, LEADER’] over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.” (1st Samuel 22:1-2).

David started out with …

  1. his own family,
  2. then his father’s house,
  3. then four men,
  4. then it grew to six hundred men when we last checked,
  5. and now it’s all the tribe of Judah (with some Levites).

He was faithful with few and God increased him with much.

Leading the Family of God from God’s Perspective

Leading the Family of God from God’s Perspective

By Apostle Ricardo Butler

I want to start with the Word of God.

ALL Elders (Five Fold Ministers/Leaders) are Spiritual Parents, Not Just the Apostle

The Scriptures say,

“And when they had ORDAINED THEM ELDERS IN EVEY CHURCH and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed. For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ORDAIN ELDERS IN EVERY CITY, as I had appointed thee.” (Acts 14:23 & Titus 1:5).

“Rebuke not an ELDER, but ENTREAT [encourage] HIM AS A FATHER; and the younger men as brethren [brothers]; [ENTREAT or encourage] THE ELDER WOMEN AS MOTHERS; the younger as sisters, with all purity.” (1st Timothy 5:1-2).

“I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake. I write unto you, FATHERS [elders are fathers and mothers], because ye have known Him [the Father] that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. I have written unto you, FATHERS, because ye have known Him [the Father] that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the Word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.” (1st John 2:11-14).

“Honor thy father and thy mother [ORDAINED ELDERS are fathers and mothers]: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Children, obey your PARENTS [elders are fathers and mothers; PARENTS] IN THE LORD: FOR [Gk: ‘BECAUSE’] THIS IS RIGHT. Honor thy father and mother [ORDAINED ELDERS are fathers and mothers]; (which is the FIRST commandment WITH PROMISE;) that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers [ORDAINED ELDERS are fathers and mothers], provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up [train up a children] in the nurture and admonition of the Lord [in the WAY (Christ is the WAY) they should God and when they are old (spiritually mature, ELDERS) they will not depart from the Father].” (Matthew 19:19 & Ephesians 6:1-4).

Discipleship or Sonship?

Did you know that the words “disciple” or “disciples” are no longer used after the Book of Acts? The words are not used in the book of Romans in the New Testament/Covenant or any book after that. As a matter as fact the last time both words are used were written in the same verse.

I was recommended a podcast to listen to by a business brother of mine in Christ named Amos Johnson Jr. over there at the Church for Entrepreneurs.

I think the podcast had something to do with business, but I was interested in some other things that I came across on the website. There was a particular article that caught my attention called, “Seven Common Comments Non-Christians Make about Christians” by Thom Rainer. He is the president and CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources.

This is actually part 5 of 7. You can read the others in the series at:
