Abraham was Justified by Faith According to God’s Covenant

“Answer this question: Does the God who lavishly provides you with His own presence, His Holy Spirit, working things in your lives you could never do for yourselves, does He do these things because of your strenuous moral striving or because you trust Him to do them in you? Don’t these things happen among you just as they happened with Abraham? He believed God, and that act of belief was turned into a life that was right with God.

Is it not obvious to you that persons who put their trust in Christ (not persons who put their trust in the law!) are like Abraham: children of faith? It was all laid out beforehand in Scripture that God would set things right with non-Jews by faith. Scripture anticipated this in the promise to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed in you.”

So those now who live by faith are blessed along with Abraham, who lived by faith—this is no new doctrine! And that means that anyone who tries to live by his own effort, independent of God, is doomed to failure. Scripture backs this up: “Utterly cursed is every person who fails to carry out every detail written in the Book of the law.”

The obvious impossibility of carrying out such a moral program should make it plain that no one can sustain a relationship with God that way. The person who lives in right relationship with God does it by embracing what God arranges for him. Doing things for God is the opposite of entering into what God does for you. Habakkuk had it right: “The person who believes God, is set right by God—and that’s the real life.” Rule-keeping does not naturally evolve into living by faith, but only perpetuates itself in more and more rule-keeping, a fact observed in Scripture: “The one who does these things [rule-keeping] continues to live by them.”

Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse. And now, because of that, the air is cleared and we can see that Abraham’s blessing is present and available for non-Jews, too. We are all able to receive God’s life, his Spirit, in and with us by believing—just the way Abraham received it.

Friends, let me give you an example from everyday affairs of the free life I am talking about. Once a person’s will has been ratified, no one else can annul it or add to it. Now, the promises were made to Abraham and to his descendant. You will observe that Scripture, in the careful language of a legal document, does not say “to descendants,” referring to everybody in general, but “to your descendant” (the noun, note, is singular), referring to Christ. This is the way I interpret this: A will, earlier ratified by God, is not annulled by an addendum attached 430 years later, thereby negating the promise of the will. No, this addendum, with its instructions and regulations, has nothing to do with the promised inheritance in the will.

What is the point, then, of the law, the attached addendum? It was a thoughtful addition to the original covenant promises made to Abraham.” (Galatians 3:6-18, The Message).

There are several apostolic truths we can learn from Paul’s message about us being children of Abraham. The primary truth that Paul was trying to teach the foolish Galatian church was the differences between the Old and New Covenant and why or how the New Covenant was so much more better then the Old.

Here are several truths that apostles and apostolic people should emphasize when teaching and convincing other people that the New Covenant Laws lived out and of Christ are so much greater and better then the Old Covenant Laws and 10 Commandments handed to Moses.
This will probably be part 1 of a several part series because there is so much to cover that apostles should know when teaching the New Covenant in the verses above.

Restoration of the Temple—the IMAGE—of God

And I got some GREAT NEWS for you! Jesus told the people of His day this:

“Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will RAISE [Gk: ‘(through the idea of collecting (gather, bring together, amass, assemble, accumulate, pull together, save) one’s faculties {sense, power, ability, give, talent, knack, staff}); to waken (get up, stir, kindle) (transitive or intransitive), i.e. rouse (provoke, incite, revive, move) (literal from sleep, from sitting or lying, from disease, from death; or figurative from obscurity, inactivity, ruins, nonexistence):—awake, lift (up), raise (again, up), rear up, (a-) rise (again, up), stand, take up’] IT UP. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou REAR [same definition above from the word ‘RAISE’] IT UP in three days? But He spake of the temple of HIS BODY.” (John 2:19-21).

And to show you the difference between the old temple and this new temple that Jesus is building. Let me add several more Scriptures to show different angles of the same mind of the Father.

“For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; and I will shake all nations, and the Desire [speaking of Jesus Christ] of all nations shall come: and I will fill THIS HOUSE with glory [the image of God], saith the LORD of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts. The glory of this latter house [the church before Christ’s return] shall be GREATER than of the former [the church during the book of Acts], saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give PEACE, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Haggai 2:6-9).

“… I will build MY church; and the gates of hell [Gk: ‘hades, the unseen, the grave’] shall NOT prevail [be prevailing] against it.” (Matthew 16:18).

“Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” (Psalms 127:1).

What is the Temple of God where the Beast sits and desolates?

What temple of Godis Paul speaking of? We read in Acts that Paul went into the literal, physical Temple in Jerusalem, but when he wrote to those in his charge in his epistles (which later became Scripture), what kind of a Temple of God did he talk about?

“Know ye not that YE ARE [1] THE TEMPLE OF GOD, and that the Spirit of God DWELLS IN YOU?” (1st Corinthians 3:16).

“If any man defile the [2] TEMPLE OF GOD, him shall God destroy; for the [3] THE TEMPLE OF GOD is holy, which temple YE ARE.(1st Corinthians 3:17).

“What? Know ye not that YOUR BODY IS [4] THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT which is IN you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (1st Corinthians 6:19).

“And what agreement has the [5] TEMPLE OF GOD with idols? For YE ARE [6] THE TEMPLE OF THE LIVING GOD: as God has said, I will dwell IN them, and walk IN them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” (2nd Corinthians 6:16).

“For through Him WE both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household [family] of God: And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone; in whom [the SAINTS] all the building fitly framed together grows unto [7] AN HOLY TEMPLE IN THE LORD: In Whom YE also are built together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.” (Ephesians 2:18-22).

Seven times Paul assures us that, YE [we] ARE the Temple of God, the habitation for His Holy Spirit. Seven, the number of completeness, of total spiritual truth. Do we suppose that after speaking of us, we, our bodies, being the temple of God seven times, that he all of a sudden he has reference to a PHYSICAL TEMPLE MADE WITH STONES? Absolutely not! This is parable.

“And saying is God, Make WILL WE [‘yet being UNPERFECT; and in thy book all my members were written, which in CONTINUANCE were fashioned, when as yet there was NONE of them.’ Ps. 139:-13-16] humanity in Our image … And CREATING [a continuing action] is God humanity in His image [Christ is the Image of God].” (Genesis 1:26a & 27a, Concordant Literal Old Testament).

[This continuance of process to becoming the Image of God starts as] For unto us a CHILD [‘new born babes in Christ’—1 Pet. 2:3, 1 Cor. 3:1] is born, unto us a SON [spirit led sons—Rom. 8:14, Gal. 4:6] is given: and the government [Empire, KINGDOM of God] shall be upon His [Christ the HEAD and Christ the BODY’S] shoulder [‘And (the household of God) are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone’—Eph. 2:20]: and His name [Heb: ‘position, function, office:–honor, authority, character’] shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting FATHER [‘you have not many fathers (parents)’—1 Cor. 4:15 and ‘entreat elder men and women as fathers and mothers’—1 Tim. 5:1-2M & ‘He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? Believest thou not that I AM in the Father, and the Father in Me?’—John 14:9-10], The Prince of Peace. Of the INCREASE of His government and peace [Heb: ‘(to join). Peace; prosperity:–one, peace, quietness, rest, set at one again—complete wholeness and oneness’ This kind of peace is from divine order when all things are set in their place] there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His Kingdom, to ORDER it [the Kingdom/Government of God], and to establish it [the Kingdom/Government of God] with judgment [divine law: love God, love self, and love others AS Christ loves you] and with justice [righteousness] from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD [the Passion of Christ] of hosts will perform this. (Isaiah 9:6-7).

Be ye [ALL of you children of God] therefore perfect [Gk: ‘Complete (in various applications of labor, growth, mental and moral character, etc.); completeness:–of full age (spiritually mature), man, perfect—in the Image of God—Christ’], even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48).

“But as many as received Him [Christ!], TO THEM [US] gave He power [the Holy Spirit] TO BECOME [in continuing process] the sons [THE SPIRITUAL IMAGE] of God, even to them that believe on His name [Gk: ‘authority, character, glory, image’].” (John 1:12).

The Holy Spirit Enables us to Grow in God

“You crazy Galatians! Did someone put a hex on you? Have you taken leave of your senses? Something crazy has happened, for it’s obvious that you no longer have the crucified Jesus in clear focus in your lives. His sacrifice on the cross was certainly set before you clearly enough.

Let me put this question to you: How did your new life begin? Was it by working your heads off to please God? Or was it by responding to God’s Message to you? Are you going to continue this craziness? For only crazy people would think they could complete by their own efforts what was begun by God. If you weren’t smart enough or strong enough to begin it, how do you suppose you could perfect it? Did you go through this whole painful learning process for nothing? It is not yet a total loss, but it certainly will be if you keep this up!

Answer this question: Does the God who lavishly provides you with his own presence, his Holy Spirit, working things in your lives you could never do for yourselves, does he do these things because of your strenuous moral striving or because you trust him to do them in you?” (Galatians 3:1-5, The Message).

Sometimes as an apostle dealing with church folks who have been duped back into religion by religious church leaders can be very frustrating. It’s like teaching your children to same lesson over and over again.

“For Thou hast possessed my reins: Thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise Thee; for I AM fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are Thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from Thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being UNPERFECT; and in thy book all my members were written, which in CONTINUANCE were fashioned, when as yet there was NONE of them.” (Psalms 139:13-16).

“And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Thine hands: they shall perish; but Thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; and as a vesture shalt Thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but Thou art the same, and Thy years shall not fail.” (Hebrews 1:10-12).

The Image of God IS Your Highest Calling

(This post and many to come were first scheduled to be part of a book that I was working on called Done Unto His Image: The True Keys of the Kingdom Since I am no longer releasing the book I am going to share what I did write so far re-edited for blog format. There was no use in letting these transformational yet controversial truths go to waste. So why not share these Kingdom Teachings.)

I love the definition of sin in the Greek. I don’t love sin! lol! But I love the definition of the what the word means in the Greek. The word “sin” means, “Properly to miss the mark (and so not share in the prize), i.e. (figuratively) to err, especially (morally) to sin:–for your faults, offend, sin, trespass.” (Strong’s Expanded Exhaustive Concordance).

I love the first definition, “to miss the MARK as so not to share in the PRIZE.” Where have we heard this? Oh yea! Apostle Paul said,

“I press toward the MARK for the PRIZE of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:14).

It’s safe to say that sin means, “to miss the mark as to not share in the prize of THE HIGH CALLING IN CHRIST JESUS!”
