Here’s another thing lacking in the music ministry, especially in the lyrics department. It’s called the anointing. Most of you got skill, but no anointing. And many of you just don’t have either; the anointing or skill/talent!
When I say you don’t have the anointing, I truly mean you don’t have the Spirit of God living in you, because the Spirit IS the anointing. And some of you other artists have the anointing (the Spirit of God), but you are not using it. You are using too much of your skills/talents (also known as your flesh). I know a lot of you are too intellectual in your approach. You are trying to appeal with your audience with too much thought provoking information. The Spirit can use this, but some of you are over doing it and are too dependent on it. This is dangerous because you can choke the Spirit out. Be sensitive to what the Spirit wants to do when you grab your pad and pen. Isaiah said,
“The SPIRIT of the Lord GOD IS UPON ME; because the LORD hath ANOINTED me [the Evangelist] to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent [the Apostle] me to bind up the brokenhearted, to [the Teacher] proclaim liberty to the captives, and [the Pastor to] the opening of the prison to them that are bound; [the Prophet] to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the OIL of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He might be glorified. And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations. And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. But ye [ALL OF YOU, not just the Five Fold Ministers] shall be named [called] the Priests [and KINGS] of the LORD [this is the priesthood of the believers]: men shall call you [ALL OF YOU, THE WHOLE CHURCH] the Ministers of our God: ye [ALL OF YOU—THE WHOLE CHURCH OF GOD] shall eat the riches of the Gentiles [the carnal nations, non-believers], and in their glory shall ye [ALL OF YOU] boast yourselves.” (Isaiah 61:1-6).
Now we come to a crucial point in this message and that is: What is YOUR job? We have above two sets of people. We have those who God has called to leadership or the mature in the Lord—that would be those whom God has called to ‘set the captives free’ and the rest of the new converts in the church and non-believers in the world—that would be those who are ‘the captives’ that need freedom.
Remember the key to all of this is the Spirit that brings a certain anointing to each of the Five Fold Ministry offices.
“And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed BECAUSE OF THE ANOINTING [that comes from the SPIRIT, not your talent to rap].” (Isaiah 10:27).
Pay close attention to what I am about to say next!
IT IS NOT ABOUT YOUR TALENT! It is about the anointing that the Spirit of God places on the minister to release those who are in bondage aka the listener to the music that you are bringing forth from your music.
So do not get it in your head (or heart) that you are “all that”, because in the presence of God no flesh shall glory!
“That NO FLESH [no talent in you] should glory in His [GOD’S] presence … That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord [JESUS CHRIST—the Anointed Messiah].” (1st Corinthians 1:29 & 31).
We are to minister according to the anointing and grace God puts on our lives. Is this not what the Five-Fold Music ministers are called to do? What did Paul say in Ephesians 4?
“Wherefore he saith, When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. And He [Jesus] gave [imparted from His own Spirit as gifts] some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers [leadership—those whom God has called to ‘set the captives free’]; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ [the rest of the church—those would be ‘the captives’ that need freedom.].” (Verses 4:8, 11-12).
I’m not saying that God doesn’t need your talents and strengths, but a lot of the times it just gets in the way. Don’t kid yourself; we all glory in the flesh, our talents sometimes. It’s natural. We want to have a sense of achievement. We want to have a sense of appreciation for creating something of worth and value.
How often do we see new artists come into the Body and try to jump on the stages in the Church and fall on their face? All the time! I’m pretty sure a majority of us in the beginning of our music ministry, with no instruction (training) in righteousness, thought we were ready because we were “gifted” or “talented”, or even worse “we got rhyme skills.” None of this has anything to do with the anointing. There is a HUGE difference! The Prophet Zechariah says,
Though this is part of another subject we will cover later in the Marriage vision of this series, I’m going to mention it here anyway. Paul describes the duty of the ANOINTED Head is to LOVE THE BODY (which is those under their loving care).
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the Head of the church: and He is the Saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church.” (Ephesians 5:22-29).
Paul used words like Saviour, love, gave Himself for, sanctify, cleanse with the washing of the Word of God, present glorious, no spots, no wrinkles, OR ANY SUCH THINGS, holy, without blemish, love them as self, never hated their own flesh, nourish, cherish, and one more word not noticeable but it is there. The text said “Christ” not “Jesus.” The Word “Christ” means “Anointed” and anointed means, “To smear or rub with oil, i.e. (implication) to consecrate to an office or religious (spiritual) service:–Anoint.”
A head is ANOINTED TO BREAK YOKES OF BONDAGE IN HIS FAMILY! That’s what Headship is all about! A man is “anointed” to do what he does in his home. He just needs training for that anointing to be released. It is his OFFICE or official duty as he is consecrated to do it well.
He is a spiritual covering of protection and when those under him step from out under that Satan will come into their “Garden of Eden” and wreck that. Why do you think God called to ADAM FIRST and not Eve? Because the father–MAN–is responsible and accountable for what goes on in his household.
What happens when a head functions properly and all the body follows the head? Answer:
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the HEAD, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments [TO THE BODY–THE HOUSEHOLD]; as the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for THERE the LORD COMMANDED THE BLESSINGS, even life for evermore.” (Psalms 133:1-3).
Again, the anointing is given to do GOOD works. The anointing is given for you to solve some kind of problem somewhere in this world. This is what being fruitful is all about! Your anointing will only work when you are using it correctly. Look back again at some of those words I used in reference to what a Head dos for the Body. You can start there and begin to put together your songs with some of these principles in mind.
